Gutters are only as secure as the fascia board they're hung on — rotted or damaged fascia is often the real reason a gutter starts sagging or pulling away.
What causes fascia boards to rot? Water that overflows a clogged gutter, or seeps behind a gutter that has pulled away from the roofline, sits against the fascia board and slowly rots the wood — the same failure that eventually lets the gutter itself sag or detach. Can you repair fascia without replacing the whole board? Often yes, if the damage is localized; a full board replacement is only needed when rot has spread along most of its length. What is soffit and why does it matter? Soffit is the panel underneath the roof overhang that ventilates the attic — if it's damaged or improperly sealed, moisture and pests can get into the roof structure, which is a separate problem from the gutter itself but often gets found during a fascia inspection.
Do I need to replace my gutters if the fascia is rotted? Not necessarily — if the gutter itself is sound, we can repair or replace just the fascia board and rehang the existing gutter, though a full reinstall is sometimes the more practical option depending on how the gutter was originally mounted.
